The Future of Road to GM

I’ve now returned from my year in China, but the future of my project to become a Grandmaster is still uncertain.  In order to study chess it is absolutely necessary to be alive, and in order to remain alive for any length of time access to food, water and shelter is useful.  The acquisition of these requires money, so it is to the generation of said money that I now turn my attention.

It is my hope that at some point in the future I will once again be able to dedicate a significant amount of time and energy to chess, but that point is not now.  I have set up an email list for the purpose of informing people if/when this project becomes active again.  You can sign up on the right.

  1. Awesome, i’ll follow you into the dark! Good luck getting that money-food chain going and stuff and following your goals!

  2. Your goal is a tough one but I think it is definitely achievable. Coincidentally, my similar intentions lead me to your blog (Googled “how to become a grandmaster in chess”).
I am 24 years old. There is no official rating system of my country and from the games that I have played with Elo rated players in open tourneys I estimate my notional Elo would be somewhere around 1700-1900. My goal is to become an IM till 50. Yes, very ambitious considering I am still an unrated player, in a job and trying to finish my studies.
It is inspiring to read your thoughts and experiences. Don’t give up, lot of people are right behind you on this path. Good luck 🙂

    1. Hi Sai,

I get quite a bit of traffic from search terms like the one you used. 🙂 Unfortunately the answer is not (yet) available on this blog!

Glad you find some value in my experiences so far, and the best of luck to you too.
